FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE AND THE CRIMEAN WAR
Florence Nightingale volunteered to be a nurse of the Crimean war and saved many lives. She was famous for turning the hospitals a cleaner place because the hospitals for the soldiers were in terrible conditions, there weren't enough beds for all the wounded soldiers to rest on, there weren't enough clothing so the soldiers had to wear their blood-stained clothes without changing, there weren't enough ingredients for for the cook to make nutritious foods for the weak soldiers, there weren't enough medical supplies so the doctors couldn't do anything. And most of all, the nurses and the doctors were so lazy, they didn't care if the soldiers died or if their clothes were all stained with blood and needed to wash them. Soon, all the nurses and doctors gave up and went back to their country. Without nurses and doctors, more and more soldiers would die because of diseases than battles. In November 1854, Florence Nightingale arrived in Turkey with 38 nurses that volunteered to help her. Florence wasn't welcomed by the previous doctors when she arrived. Florence Nightingale did a lot of things that helped all the soldiers recover and was called 'The lady with the lamp' because she walked around the hospital to see if any of the soldiers were in pain and if they did, she would go and help them.
THE DISEASES
The soldiers had to deal with deadly diseases such as Typhus, Typhoid and Cholera. But they couldn't do anything to avoid catching those diseases. Some nurses also died because they caught those diseases from the soldiers.
